The Porsche 959 was the supercar of the 80’s. Incorporating brand new technologies that eventually came a decade later into all Porsche 911s, this car was to dream for. Especially since the car was never legally ever sold in the USA.
The Porsche 959 was built by Porsche to compete in the ill-fated Paris-Dakar Rally, which it won in 1986. Then they brought out the road car versions for purchase.
It had a top speed of 197 mph, and used a twin-turbo 2.9 liter flat six engine that produced a whopping then 444 hp. It was mated to a 4-wheel drive system, a 6 speed manual and incorporated the latest technologies like ABS and aluminium and Kevlar parts. Wheels were magnesium with hollow spokes. It weight under 3,000 lbs and went 0-60 in under 4 secs. Remember this was the 1980s. Crazy numbers now, insane numbers back then.
Now comes to the main event – a special ‘paint-to-sample’ Porsche 959 is now for sale. The paint known as Porsche Paint Code 041 is a slick black exterior, matched to a caramel-brown leather interior. Its being offered for sale by Gooding & Co’s Pebble Beach Sale on August 15-16, 2015 and is expected to fetch over $1.6 million dollars.
Personally we wouldn’t care if the car was hot neon Pink, we would buy one if we had the funds. This is a dream car for all decades.
